Delicious & Nutritious Food at Wellspring Texas
Wellspring Texas campers enjoy great food at camp. We understand that in order for our campers to commit to a healthy diet, the food we provide for them needs to be satisfying, delicious and familiar. So we've created a menu of kid-tested favorites that allows campers to continue enjoying many of their favorite foods while still losing weight. Chicken fingers, sweet potato fries, spaghetti and meat sauce, pizza, burgers—these are just a few of the fantastic entrees that we cook up for our campers.

The secret is in the way we prepare foods. By using low-fat, low-density cooking methods and a few different ingredients, we maintain the flavors of the foods our campers are used to eating.

And in addition to the satisfying entrees, campers have access to the "uncontrolled food" bar at each meal, with a variety of no- and low-fat options that ensure campers are never hungry. Yogurt, cottage cheese, veggies, salads, fresh fruit, and soup are available in unlimited portions, as long as campers write down (self-monitor) everything they eat at each meal.

Learn to Cook
We want our campers to return home and be able to continue the food plan they've established at camp. So we make sure that campers know how to choose and prepare Wellspring-friendly food on their own. Trips to grocery stores and restaurants help campers learn to substitute favorite meals and snacks with healthier options. Culinary classes train campers on everything they need to know to be comfortable in the kitchen—proper chopping techniques, kitchen hygiene, creating and following recipes, baking, grilling, dry sautéing, and even food presentation. Our goal is to send campers home feeling confident in the kitchen and relieving parents of their role as "food police."
