Personalized approach to meet every camper’s needs
Several traditional weight loss camps for kids, teens, and young adults work with 400-500 campers at a time. At such a scale, it becomes challenging for staff to provide adequate supervision. Rules, like those involving safety or adherence to the weight loss program principles (e.g. not bringing in any food from outside camp) tend to be ignored or violated at these large weight loss camps. In addition, some campers find it difficult to adjust to camp and deal with issues such as homesickness in such a large environment. Campers become a “number” without any personalized care and attention.

Wellspring believes it’s impossible to operate a fun, effective, and safe summer camp for weight loss unless the Director knows the name of each and every camper. Unlike traditional weight loss programs or fat camps for kids, Wellspring ensures that each camper is assigned an individual Behavioral Coach – a Master’s- or Doctoral-level therapist or social worker – who provides the coaching each camper requires to achieve rapid weight loss and healthy long-term weight control.

Recognizing the importance of peer support, campers are grouped by age for housing and activities. Our flagship program Wellspring New York, which serves a wide range of women (11 – 24 years old), divides camp into three distinct lower camp, middle camp and upper camp, which operate independently.
Wellspring intentionally keeps its programs small and manageable, following our belief that an emotionally-safe environment will lead to the greatest success.
