A Summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Wellspring Adventure Camp is located at Camp Hope, a picturesque, secluded location in a nook in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Canton, NC, about an hour west of Asheville, NC, and just down the hill from beautiful and historic Mt. Pisgah (elevation of 6,000 feet).
The Blue Ridge Mountains are a famous destination for vacationers, naturalists and adventurers, offering a wide range of options for recreation and adventure, such as hiking and backpacking, camping, fishing, biking, swimming, rock-climbing, waterfalls, wildlife, historical areas, and a variety of special programs to choose from. The mild southern climate means that most areas are accessible year-round, although given the varying elevations, there is a high degree of variability to the weather. Summertime daily temperatures average in the 80's in the lower elevations to the 70's to near 80's at Camp Hope.
Camp Hope is a perfect base for adventure expeditions to nearby mountains and rivers, and is a wonderful place to spend the summer.
Wellspring Adventure Camp Facilities
Having served Western North Carolina for over 80 years, Camp Hope is one of the most historic camp facilities in the region. Camp Hope is a beloved place in the hearts of those who have spent a summer here-a place where people who appreciate simple living can thrive in their weight loss journey without many of the distractions of modern life.
Campers share traditional cabins with 10-12 other campers. There are shower stalls and a bathroom located in each cabin, as well as shared laundry facilities. Most cabins are newly renovated, and all are clean and airy.
Camp Hope's historic dining hall, porches, and pavilion provide campers with ample activity space in the event of inclement weather. Campers play basketball, volleyball and tennis on the playing courts. The buildings surround several playing fields, which host every sport and game imaginable, along with our "Chow Circles" every day before breakfast and dinner.
Unlike our other Wellspring Camps locations, Camp Hope does not have traditional weight rooms or personal training facilities. Rather, campers learn how to create a full workout experience with free weights, resistance training, and basic aerobic equipment. This prepares campers to honor their fitness goals in any environment or situation, especially at home.
The East Fork of the Pigeon River runs through camp, providing several swimming holes for swimming and water sports. Picnic tables dotting the riverside are the perfect setting for group sessions, or just relaxing. Further down the river is our fire circle, where we celebrate camper achievements every Friday night.
Parents appreciate the many opportunities afforded their children at Wellspring Adventure Camp, including the chance to spend time in a traditional camp environment, where campers reconnect with nature and learn how to find enjoyment in simple pleasures. Campers appreciate the immersive environment of Camp Hope and the deep connections they forge with each other in these surroundings.
