1. My child is a bit heavy for her age and height, but she is still very young. Will attending Family Camp help create healthy habits, or will it negatively reinforce her perception of being overweight?
Family Camp is a celebration of an active and healthy lifestyle. Campers at Family Camp aren’t identified as overweight. Rather, all participants – staff, parents and children – are "athletes in training." By "athletes" we mean that we are attempting to improve and maintain fitness in the face on an environment that makes it very hard to do so. The training consists of learning to love being active, as well as more specific skills that Wellspring teaches. This way, the weight will come off and stay off after campers return home. And campers won’t identify themselves as overweight, but rather as athletes.

2. What is included in Family Camp tuition?
Tuition includes accommodation for 2 family members in one suite (single bedrooms, living room, bathroom). Additional family members may attend at an incremental rate as suites have 4 bedrooms. Tuition also includes all scheduled Wellspring meals and snacks, cognitive behavioral therapy sessions with Masters- and Doctoral-level therapists, and culinary and nutrition training. Finally, tuition includes all Wellspring activities, including all sports, games and classes, use of the fitness facilities, and special trips to theme parks and other great tourist destinations. There are no additional fees.

3. My child is old enough to attend other Wellspring Camps (typically for ages 11 – 18 years old). Should she attend Family Camp with me, or should I send her to the other Wellspring Camps?
If your child is old enough to attend other Wellspring Camps (at least 11), you may be deciding between the two programs.
In general, if your child would benefit from your complete support, then Family Camp is a better bet. Together, at Family Camp you and your child have the chance to learn Wellspring’s renowned fitness and weight loss approach, providing an amazing opportunity to share a fantastic healthy family vacation.
If you are the Mother or another female relative, at Wellspring La Jolla you can also consider enrolling your child in our main camp and attending our Wellspring Women’s Program at the same time. Every summer a number of Mothers and Grandmothers chose this option, allowing them and their child the freedom to focus on their own needs with the confidence that they are learning the same great lessons. Meanwhile, you’ll have plenty of time to visit each day.

4. What are the accommodations like?
Families stay in suite-style dorms, with 4 single bedrooms, a living room and bathroom. The suites are modern, air-conditioned and very comfortable. Each family enjoys a private suite, and many rooms even have great views. On-site laundry facilities are free for families to use.
