Activities at Wellspring Family Camp

Wellspring Family Camp is a place for parents and children to have fun while learning to establish an active lifestyle at home. A week (or two, or three) at Family Camp is an active vacation, but one of the most fun vacations you'll ever experience together.

Wellspring Family Camp schedules activities for campers from the moment we wake up until 9 p.m., with designated times for families to relax together and enjoy our beautiful surroundings. Campers are kept busy through a variety of activities, sports, games, nutrition and culinary classes, and cognitive-behavioral therapy with Wellspring Behavioral Coaches. The goal is for campers to learn skills and gain confidence in a variety of activities, so they'll have many options for remaining active at home.

While campers are busy having fun, parents have the opportunity to participate in parent workshops, learning successful strategies for bringing a healthy lifestyle into the home. Other times, you will join in the fun with your kids, or simply enjoy the beach or expansive fitness facilities.

Campers Participate in a range of activities, including:

  • Flag football

  • Scavenger hunts

  • Capture the flag
  • Beach volleyball

  • Surfing Camp

Some of these activities will be designated for the entire family, while others will be for campers or parents only. In addition, we offer a schedule of fantastic trips to great destinations like Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.

While we like to keep moving at Wellspring Family Camp, we also find time for traditional camp activities that delight the entire family. Some of these activities include:

Attainable Activity Goals

At Wellspring Family Camp, all campers, parents, and staff wear pedometers with the goal of at least 10,000 steps per day. This is twice the number of steps taken by the average adult, and one of the most effective and simple ways to increase your daily activity level. This one simple change can dramatically alter the parent/child dynamic surrounding activity, as it becomes a shared daily project to reach your goal together.

In addition, campers and parents learn to self-monitor their activity and food each day, providing a way for parents and children to review their day, celebrate successes, and find solutions on days when goals aren't met. And during individual and group sessions with Behavioral Coaches, you'll work to identify barriers to achieving these activity goals at camp and at home, both for you and your child. When you return home, you'll still have the support of Behavioral Coaches through our Continuing Care Program, giving you the chance to work through any new challenges as they arise.

Exposure to a wide variety of enjoyable activities helps promote a commitment and interest in an active lifestyle at home. Wellspring Family Camp activities enliven children and parents alike, igniting motivation to continue an active lifestyle through helping campers build confidence in their physical abilities, and promoting simple, attainable daily activity goals.
